Introduction to IT - Assignment 2

INTRODUCTION
Firstly, we are a group of 10 and have successfully created a website with links to each of our member’s sub-Website which consist 3 pages. Each member has their pages in individual folders under the same website address. Our group Web page has links to CSS files. In other words, our members’ sub-Website can have either linked or embedded CSS. To make the Web page more attractive, we have uploaded an eye-catching theme to bring out the uniqueness and creativity aspects of our group’s Web page.
Each of our member’s has chosen one of the chapters or topics from the lecture notes, and each and every sub-Website has covered a page on this. Concurrently, our member’s sub-Website has a home page (index). A home page includes aspects of an introduction to the particular individual in our group, a ‘technology’ page with embedded video of an Internet technology and links to other technology sites or bookmarks, and a page on Internet technologies as mentioned above whereby a topic were covered in a lecture.
Last but not least, we managed to link the sub-Website pages to each other and to the main group Web page. Our group has uploaded to a registered free web server which was “Bravehost”. The following is the detailed navigation flow diagram to project a clearer picture on this project.

DETAILS ON THE INDIVIDUAL WEB PAGES
To start off with the whole process, the first most important page would be the homepage. Homepage is where all relevant information regarding the particular individual and other favourite links that the individual would like to share in the web page. For instance, “facebook”, “twitter”, soccer sites, blogs and etc. After completing on the homepage, links such as technology and lecture notes are to be created. These links are compulsory as mentioned on the project outline.
On that note, on my technology link, I have chosen to speak on the network technology aspects of Sony Ericsson phones in terms with digital networking and phone portfolios. I have stressed on two digital networks which is GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) and GPRS (General Packet Radio System). I have touched on the elements on how and where it can be used and also the benefits of these digital networks. Along with that, I have also included the latest upcoming Sony Ericsson phone portfolios as a bonus package in my technology link to attract interest on the latest phones Sony Ericsson has manufactured. This would not only be an educational site but also a dependable catalogue for new phones that are manufactured but not out yet in the market. In this way, my readers would be updated with the latest updates on technology and also on their favourite Sony Ericsson phones.
On the other hand, our group has chosen to touch on chapter 2 in our lecture notes which is on Browser Basics. I have made my link a very direct and straight forward set of notes. Although there are no pictures inserted but with reliable and short notes that I have created, indeed it would be a reader friendly educational site. Elements such as learning about the Internet and the World Wide Web, how Web browser software displays Web pages, how Web page addresses are constructed, configure and use the Microsoft Internet Explorer Web browser to navigate the Web, and other different types of browsers available on the Internet. Thereafter, these links were developed by using Microsoft FrontPage and consequently all the information is then uploaded in a free registered web server which in this case I have used “Bravehost”.

In terms of technologies used in this project, preferably Microsoft FrontPage is the essential technology mostly used in creating the designs and also certain methods that I have chosen to imply on. The latter has definitely made the process little easier but in return to compensate on the easy factors, creativity and uniqueness were the primary focus on my web sites.
Firstly, on the technology link, I have chosen a background that compliments the logo of Sony Ericsson. That creates credibility of the brand and therefore the page would be easily interpreted as a Sony Ericsson product knowledge website. Apart from that, the fonts used are Comic sans MS number 12. The font was chosen only because I wanted it to be attractive and clearly read and therefore when the Comic Sans MS are then bolded it will stand out and reading the text would not be difficult. Highlighting the text would also be another way to read the text easier. The format of this technology link is rather simple and straight forward. The notes are in point form and grasping the important would not be a hard task.
On the contrary, on the lecture notes link, the background chosen is related to the various types of browsers. Like the above with the technology link, this background picture also blends perfectly well with the particular topic which is on Browsers. The fonts are just the same as the technology link which is Comic sans MS with font number 12 also bolded to serve the same purpose as the previous link.
Moving on the homepage, I inserted a Manchester United background picture. But due to some unfortunate technical mishaps, the page has come out with a blank screen which in fact portrays the simple personality I possess. Indirectly it also brings out the fonts and the information is well perceived. I have added other favourite links that I frequently surf and would like to share them in my homepage which is Facebook, My blog and Manchester United fast loading breaking news page.
There were not many difficulties in developing the websites but there were plenty of excitement after the website was created. In terms of difficulties I would only comment on the aspect of the part where the group Web page should have a link to CSS file.

CONCLUSION
In a nutshell, executing this project has made me learn so much more about Internet Technologies. Firstly, I studied the lecture notes and applied my own very understanding on the topic and uploaded the relevant information. Thereafter, learning the processes on how to upload a website using a registered free web server such as “Bravehost” has made me more knowledgeable on the creating and posting more new web sites and this will be a handy experience when I venture out to the working world where now everything is based on computers and how knowledgeable the employee is on computer and IT skills. Fortunately, this project only serves me the benefits due to a systematic approach on how to develop a web site using so many aspects and elements involved in it. I have also learnt how to use Microsoft FrontPage, even though it’s relatively a shorter and easier method but it serves great purpose in saving time and at the same time I have also taken the time to analyze the codes as it might be useful in near future as the saying goes “learning something extra is never a crime”. To conclude, the biggest lesson I learned was learning how to use a web hosting server. I believe it was hard for me because it was my first time using it and learning from scratch just made it even harder than it should have been. I suppose I would have changed certain HTML codes and brushed up on adding applets to make the web page look a little more interesting and perhaps easy on the eyes. I have also learnt on how work as team as it only reaps rewards with a successful final product. Although the load is heavy, the final product has many to offer.
